In order to fully understand laser skin re-surfacing options and choose the right treatment for your own personal skin concerns, you first need to grasp the difference between 'ablative' and 'non-ablative' technology.
Laser beams hit the skin surface as a whole, removing targeted layers of skin causing complete skin regeneration. Conventional laser skin ablation can be painful and involves long recovery periods.
Otherwise known as 'fractional', these new generation, non-ablative lasers treat the skin's surface in microscopic fractions. Treatment is faster with less or no 'downtime', as the intended skin 'damage' is limited to tiny segments, not the surface as a whole.
Fraxel Restore DUAL
Fraxel DUAL is best for younger patients (approx. 30 - 50) who have early wrinkles or mild to moderate acne scarring or for those who can't accommodate the downtime associated with more aggressive CO2 treatments.
Fraxel DUAL laser treatment targets ageing and sun-damaged skin: microscopic laser light columns penetrate deep into the skin, delivering heat in tiny segments to the target area. As a non-ablative laser, this device does not treat the area as a whole, but in microscopic portions leaving treated skin sitting next to untreated skin.
This process promotes rapid healing with new, healthy skin cells re-generating from the inside outwards. Each treatment replaces about 15-20% of the sun damaged, scarred or wrinkled skin. It triggers the body's natural healing process accelerating the production of collagen and new, healthy skin cells. 1,000-2,000 microthermal zones per area are created each centimetre squared.
As the name suggests, Fraxel DUAL operates using twin wavelengths, targeting problem areas on two levels. This has huge benefits for our patients, as it delivers quicker and more impressive results than ever before.
The Fraxel DUAL treats the following conditions:
- Sun damage, wrinkles, and ageing on the face, neck, chest, hands, arms, legs, and back
- Certain cases of melasma
- Some acne scarring and surgical scars
- Improves crêpey skin appearance and fine lines around the eye and on the eyelids
- Improves skin texture and tone
How many treatments will I need?
Usually 3 - 5 sessions are performed, one every 3 - 8 weeks. Other benefits of DUAL include relative little discomfort and minimal risk.
